Dream Lover Excerpt Eight

Two spirits watched their son propose marriage to his beloved, but now they had to journey home. John needed to gather the eggs and plant more corn. Rebecca was planning to bake pumpkin and apple pies to treat the children who lived on the neighboring farms. One six-year-old child had loved Rebecca’s baked goods while still alive, before her death from cancer. She and her parents had lived down the road from Rebecca and John’s home in West Virginia. That same child now came to visit the Farrell’s farm and partake of the goodies Rebecca baked. Her heart grieved for the little girl and all the other children who had passed away too soon. She wished she could do more for the children than bake endless pies and cookies and read to them about places and things they would never get to see. But, most of all, Rebecca wished she and John had listened to their son and not gone to visit her sister that fateful day.
